For God may speak in one way or in another,
Yet man does not perceive it.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night,
When deep sleep falls upon men,
While slumbering on their beds,
16 Then He opens the ears of men,
And seals their instruction. Job 33:14-16
The Holy Spirit has communicated with me for many years through visions and dreams. Dreams are one of the ways that the Holy Spirit reveals his truth to us. I enjoy my dreams for this reason. I want to receive God's truth unfiltered. Dreams give us our instructions so that we do not lean on our own understanding of the plans and purposes of God. Proverbs 3:5-8, Jeremiah 33:3.
God's Truth Unfiltered
In order to turn man from his deed,
And conceal pride from man,
He keeps back his soul from the Pit,
And his life from [c]perishing by the sword.
Job 33:17-18
I realised a long time ago the importance of dreams in my life. The Holy Spirit bypasses the arguer in our hearts using dreams and visions. Acts 10:10-16. The dream is designed to speak to our souls at night through our spirits so that the Holy Spirit can seal our instructions. It is a way for God to talk to us about significant issues in our hearts that fight against the plans and purposes of God in our lives. Fortunately, we have many examples of dreams in the bible to look at and learn how God has communicated to His people. I would suggest doing a bible study on the topic of dreams. You will be surprised by what you know about this subject.
In the meantime, here are some practical tools to help you to recall your dreams consistently.
- Say to yourself, I believe dreams contain a valid message
- Ask God to speak to you through dreams as you fall asleep.
- Put a journal next to your bed.
- Get 8 hours of sleep. (I receive dreams during nap times as well).
- Awaken naturally, without the use of an alarm clock.
By doing these five practical steps, we are letting God know that we are ready to receive His counsel at night, or anytime we fall asleep. In my next blog, I'll explore the principles of dream interpretation that I use to interpret dreams. Always rely on the Holy Spirit to help us interpret our dreams and visions.
15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it." 16 So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, "It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace." Genesis 41:15-16
